ArtWest 2017 is taking form.  All 70 Contemporary Artists in the exhibition identify as artists of West Auckland.  Whether that be because they geographically live in the area or by some other form of connection, through place, people, art practice, school, work or other.

Through that connection, artists create for various reasons and in various ways – the exhibition will collectively honour the varied arts that are practised in our communities.

Alongside the exhibition there will also be public and student workshops, community art projects, and events.  By hosting the exhibition at Kelston Girls’ college, it also functions to make the arts more accessible to our local community, particularly our younger members.

EXHIBITION OPENING TIMES | Sat 28 – Tues 31 10 – 4pm
Exhibiting work by 70+ Contemporary West Auckland Artists. With Art and Artists of many mediums and experiences you have the opportunity to purchase work as well as view and be inspired.

PUBLIC ARTWORK | Sept – October
Artist and Kelston ‘Old Girl’ Amiria Puia-Taylor has been back to school to work alongside students to create a public artwork. You can’t miss it at the intersection of Great North Rd and West Coast rd.

FREE PUBLIC WORKSHOPS | Sat 28 10 – 2pm
For all ages. The Creative Souls Project, Leela Bhai, Lissa Knight, Janet Lilo + more. Make a lunchtime of it with a sausage sizzle ready to feed hungry bellies.

DINNER AT ARTWEST | Sat 28 6:30pm – 9pm
ArtsWhau will be hosting a Whau Arts Hui…eat, chat and chill with creative people from the surrounding Whau area. Places are limited, find out more here: Dinner at ArtWest

SCHOOL WORKSHOPS | Mon 30 – Tues 31 9 – 3pm
Te Uru Waitakere Contemporary Gallery Education Team, Art in a Box Workshops over 2 days with 6 local Whau schools. These are booked workshops, message us for more information!

THE KELSTON FLAG PROJECT | Fri 27 – Tues 31
Fashion designer and environmental artist Miranda Brown has been working with our community for the last year on a collaborative flag project. After launching the project at ArtWest 2016, the final flags will be unveiled at ArtWest 2017!
ArtWest 2017 has received support from Kelston Girls’ School, The Whau Local Board, Creative Communities, The Chartwell Charitible Trust and The Whau Arts Broker.
