D.A.N.C.E FM 106.7

Auckland art collective D.A.N.C.E. Art Club are taking to the shores of Lake Taupo to provide a mobile community radio station and public address unit, meeting and broadcasting with communities throughout the region during the Erupt Festival. The mobile radio station D.A.N.C.E FM 106.7 operates from a converted panel truck, equipped with media and broadcast devices, reporting on events at the festival and wider community activity. The mobile station will travel around the lake to Taupo’s distinct and diverse communities, exchanging local stories, community issues and reasons to celebrate.

You’ll hear live studio interviews with artists, conversations with festival goers, and interviews with locals, captured by D.A.N.C.E. FM’s roaming reporters.  As a community broadcasting project, D.A.N.C.E Art Club wants to open public discussion around the festival, highlighting its place within the community.  The project will link to local businesses, community organisations and everyday households.

This project is part of Letting Space’s Community Service series which works across festival platforms to create artwork that is principally about people rather than things, to enable social change. It is joined at the Erupt Festival at the same time by another Community Service series work Tim Barlow’s The Public Fountain.

D.A.N.C.E. Art Club is an Auckland based arts collective who curate and facilitate art gatherings. They enjoy working in diverse spaces such as public parks, nightclubs, urban environments as well as traditional gallery spaces. Their key aim is to encourage audience engagement and participation in challenging and innovative ways. Their members include Chris Fitzgerald, Ahilapalapa Rands, Linda.T and Vaimaila Urale. Previous projects have included with Enjoy Art Gallery, St Paul Street Gallery, Mangere Arts Centre, Cassette 9, Sarjeant Gallery and Galatos. Shortly after Erupt they wing themselves to Melbourne to organize the closing party for the Next Wave Festival.
