  • Fresh Horizons Hawkes Bay 2014

Hosted by ideaschool at the Eastern Institute of Technology in Napier, Tautai held three full days of workshops for the Fresh Horizons programme. Nine local high schools nominated pacific students to take part resulting in a group of twenty nine students. Amiria Puia-Taylor ran a mural workshop where her group painted their own designs onto two mobile walls that will now travel around to each of the participating schools; thank you to our kind sponsors Wattyl paints! Chris Charteris worked with his group to create stunning adornment pieces from coconut shell, and even included a coconut scraping demonstration. The sound of the coconut cracking was recorded among other sounds by Matthew Salapu’s group who incorporated field recordings into the three musical pieces they composed. At the end of three days the students had all achieved and learnt so much, as well as making new connections and friendships.
