G.G. Talk that talk | Fresh Gallery ÅŒtara

Within Auckland’s urban Pacific vernacular exist a sub-genre of terms that relate specifically to queer Pacific minorities. This language is wrapped up in complex Identity politics and seamlessly weaves a Poly-centric cultural syntax with a colloquial hybrid of western queer terminology.

G.G means ‘Gay Guy’ and is used to describe male / masculine identified Gay Pacific males. The theme for G.G looks at the concept of counter narrative and ask artist to explore their identity beyond the confines of western language and interpret queer indiginiety in the twenty first century. G.G applies a Pacific lens on modern masculinity and its various interpretive incarnations with culturally profound results.
