In O lÄ Äitu lÄitiiti | Those small spirits, three Kulin Biik/Melbourne-based artists offer new painting, drawing and performance works interrogating received notions of remembrance, cultural memory, native Oceanian/Pacific spirituality, and mourning. In direct relation to the myriad sites of ancestral narratives and trajectories of the deceased, the works engage with the rites and representations in cultural practices, genealogical history, archives and museum collections to signify a sense of balance.
Matthew Bray (Rotuma) – Hanuj’akia Hapmafau, diptych on canvas, Léuli Eshraghi (SÄmoa, Iran) – ‘O Tupuga, drawings on paper, Grace Vanilau (SÄmoa) – spoken word performance work.
15 October – 1 November
Rubicon ARI, 309 Queensberry Street, Melbourne, Australia.
