In the Samoan language, Uliuli ma le Pa’epa’e translates to ‘Black and White’ in reference to the graphic nature and quality of line in the diverse drawing practices of the three artists, Francis Pesamino, Zeinab Tabar and Daniel Tautua.
Recent graduates of Manukau Institute of Technology, the three artists are all developing new drawing works which engage with aspects of the diverse communities of Mangere. Each artist has chosen to work with a group or selection of people; from those involved in the area and noted sports players to working with a local marae.
Uliuli ma le Pa’epa’e works in tandem with the Seek exhibition in the adjacent gallery, extending the ideas of generosity and a commitment to engage the local community.
