  • Whau Pacific Festival 2016

    The Whau Pacific Festival 2016 is a celebration of the diversity in the Whau Community. Four days of free events happening around the Whau. Food, art, music and celebrations between young and old.

     

    OPENING NIGHT

    ​Wednesday 24 August 6:30pm @ The Creative Souls Project HQ : Avondale Intermediate School. ​Opening evening – A FREE LIVE MUSIC EVENT celebrating pacific music. Introducing all Events and Hosts for the events.

     

     

    PRE SCHOOL PACIFIC SONG SESSIONS

    Thursday 25 August 10-11am @ Avondale Library
    Friday 26 August 10am – 11am @ New Lynn Library
    ​Friday 26 August 10:30-11am @ Blockhouse Bay Library

    ​Preschool Pacific Song Sessions – at Avondale, Blockhouse Bay and New Lynn public libraries.  Pacific song and traditional instrument experimentation included in these sessions.

     

     

    THE BASICS -PACIFIC COOKING CLASS AND ​PACIFIC FUSION TASTING SESSION

    Palangi Wives Club class
    Thursday 25th 6:30/7-9pm @ Avondale Intermediate
    ​Learn 2 traditional pacific dishes including raw fish and a dish of the chefs choice
    There are only 25 seats for this class and spots for this event can be booked at www.eventbrite.co.nz from 20 July.

    ​Pacific Fusion Tasting Session
    ​Thursday 25th 6:30 @ Ecomatters New Lynn
    ​An opportunity to taste urban dishes inspired by the tastes of the pacific. Recipes and some ideas to help give your garden a whaunesian flare

    PACIFIC CRAFT MAKING SESSION

    Friday 26 August 10am-12pm @ Glenavon Primary
    Pacific Craft Making session with the Aunties –
    ​Morning Teas is on us and traditional crafts are being taught and made. Open session hosted by Glenavon Primary onsite in their school hall

     

     

    WHAU THE PEOPLE @ ALL GOODS GALLERY ​THE ART OF TRADITION

    Saturday 27 August 10am-4pm @ All Goods Gallery
    ​Exhibition open, the arts of tradition including Fijian Tapa, Siva Samoa, our from Nana to You portraits ​and artists working onsite

     

     

    LANGUAGE NEST

    Saturday 27 August 12-2pm : Hosted by ATWC @ Avondale Baptist Church. Drop in learn a little of our pacific languages. Samoan, Tongan, Niuean, Cook Island and Maori speakers available for you to learn the words you would like to learn or practise your language. This is a great session for preschool/kindy and teachers to attend.

    POLLYWOOD PACIFIC SHORT FILM ​& LIVE THEATRE NIGHT

    ​ Friday 26 August 6:30pm @ Blockhouse Bay Community Centre
    ​Saturday 27 August 6:30pm @ Blockhouse Bay Community Centre
    Pacific Short Film and Pacific Theatre – Evening event showcasing pacific filmmakers and some live theatre performances by young actors. Pollywood Films and 2 PIPA graduates making it a real celebration of Pacific Theatre in our community

    UKULELE JAM

    Sunday 28 August 9-11 @Avondale Sunday Market
    Ukulele Jam at the Sunday Market – Ukuleles out for playing at our local Sunday Market. Come have a jam before or after you get your week veggies. We have a ukulele to give away on the day so be sure to stop by.

     


    PACIFIC BANQUET & CLOSING OF THE FESTIVAL

    Sunday 28 August @ New Lynn Community Centre
    Pacific Banquet – a sit down pacific inspired feast hosted by Generation Ignite. Generation Ignite is a Charitable Trust in New Lynn who offer support to our young community including a newly opened food bank run in collaboration with their community garden.
