Auckland Libraries are going through an exciting time. Â They are focusing on developing closer relationships between libraries, customers and communities. Their objective is to better capture and preserve the identity, memory and collective narrative of a changing and diverse Auckland.
It’s not often an opportunity like this presents itself. This is a unique role in a team that is responsible for research, heritage and community archives in the Auckland Libraries.
Specifically, this position is all about the development and interpretation of Pacific content and community archives for research and heritage. It requires connecting with Pasifika communities to help them preserve their content and to share it with Aucklanders. It also involves being a resource and an advocate for the wider Auckland community on all things relating to the Pacific collections.
Assisting with the development and design of relevant exhibitions and presentations will also be an integral part of this diverse and exciting role. If you are passionate about Pasifika heritage, love engaging with Pasifika communities, are flexible, detail focused and love working as part of a team, then this could be the job for you!
As Pacific Curator, you will ideally be tertiary qualified and have had some experience in a museum collections environment. You may also have worked in a library or your commitment to research will have made you a very high user of libraries.
A current New Zealand Driver’s Licence is desirable.
You will also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and will be confident in diverse cultural settings. You will be future focused and innovative and have excellent customer service skills also. You also need to be a good team player and enjoy letting your creative juices flow!
