  • Call for applications: Tautai and Dunedin School of Art – Artist in Residence 2019

The Dunedin School of Art, Artist in Residence, is a great opportunity for a Pacific Artist to take time to research and make work, with access to wonderful facilities including the Hocken Library, a library collection of national significance administered by the University of Otago.  Dunedin School of Art has specialist world-class facilities to support; Printmaking, Sculpture, Painting, Drawing, Ceramics, Photography, Electronic Arts, Textiles, Jewellery & Metalsmithing.

The artist in residence will be required to make new work for an exhibition at the end of the residency; to give artist talks to students and presentations to staff/local community; and to be available for media interviews. The artist will put on an exhibition of new works created during the residency at the Dunedin School of Art Gallery.

In the past the residency was 8 weeks long but we have extended it to 12 weeks for 2019, so the artist will have more time to create work and to get comfortable with the space in which they will be exhibiting.  The residency dates are:  1 April – 22 June 2019.

The artist is expected to have a presence in the school and must be available for a minimum of 3 events: one public seminar, one workshop/seminar and the exhibition itself.

Included in the residency is a weekly stipend of $500, return flights for the artist.  This is a family friendly residency offering accommodation in a two bedroom house with studio situated within campus.  Recent residents include: Jae Hoon Lee, Kate Davis, Gavin Hipkins, Karl Fritsch and Claudia Jowitt.

If you are interested in applying for this opportunity please email: tautai@archive.tautai.org with a letter outlining your intention and interest and your CV by Wednesday 12 December, 5pm.
