We invite applications from a Pasifika curator based in Aotearoa to work as part of the team at Queensland Art Gallery Gallery of Modern Art, on their flagship project – The Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art.
This opportunity is from a new partnership between Creative New Zealand, QAGOMA and Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust to develop Pasifika curators internationally. The residency will be part-time and spread over two years to provide experience for the resident curator at key milestones of the major triennial project. The selected candidate will work closely with the Asia Pacific team at QAGOMA in Brisbane and with key staff from Tautai, Aotearoa’s leading Pacific arts trust.Â
This professional development opportunity will support the successful candidate to research, propose and develop a Pacific artist project for QAGOMA’s 10th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT10) and to gain hands-on experience into the planning and presentation of the event. APT10 will be presented at QAGOMA from 27 November 2021 – 25 April 2022.
We are seeking an innovative Pasifika curator who will bring their knowledge and fresh ideas to the development of a Pacific artist’s project for APT10. The ideal candidate will have a passion for presenting and promoting Pacific artists’ work to diverse audiences, proven experience in managing artists’ projects and good written and spoken communication, with interest in working in a team and experiencing the development of a significant exhibition within a large public institution. The costs of the curator’s flights, accommodation, insurance and curator fee are funded by CNZ under Creative New Zealand’s Pacific Arts Strategy 2018 – 2023.
In addition to regular communication with QAGOMA and Tautai, the candidate will be required to be present at QAGOMA in Brisbane for a total of six weeks during 2020 and 8 weeks working on the project in Aotearoa. The commitment of an additional three weeks in Brisbane and four weeks in Aotearoa will be required for 2021.Â
-Develop the capability of arts practitioners by increasing global knowledge and incorporating skills sharing and professional development
