Using woven silk ribbon with plastic mats, Serene Timoteo’s exhibition is a vibrant and hybrid take on traditional Pacific craft. The large scale and intricate hand woven pieces acknowledge the work of her grandparents in planting a beautiful garden for her family and also a beautiful life here in Auckland. The works explore the way different Pacific flora have created a sense of nostalgia for the artist as well as the artist’s grandparents in moving from Samoa to Auckland in the 1960’s.
