Join Tuaratini, a Takitua (storyteller) from the storytelling collective Turou Takitua, at Te Uru as she takes a journey into the past of Mangaia, sharing a story of her tupuna and an ancient curse. It is a story of life and death, and the inevitable cycle it revolves upon.
Tuaratini’s performance is presented alongside Robert George’s experimental film, a memoir for falling light, which considers how indigenous stories might shape how films are made. Like George’s work, time exists differently in Tuaratini’s story. Connecting the past to the present, the inner self and the outer world, her story questions and answers, then comes back to question again.
