Tautai Winter Workshops
This winter we have a series of workshops to provide information and advice about The Business of Art. The series is aimed to help support the artists practice. This workshop series will takes place every Wednesday at the Tautai office, level 1, 300 Karangahape Rd, Newton, Auckland. Each week a speaker will present on a different aspect of the art business over five weeks. Register your place now.

Wed 16 August -Â OPERATING AS A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST
Presenter:Â Lonnie Hutchinson
Lonnie Hutchinson will share how she manages her life and business including tips on scheduling, making applications, keeping records, good communication, accounting, budgeting, PR, and writing about your work.

Lonnie Hutchinson has a prolific exhibiting career both nationally and internationally, she has been awarded a number of international residencies and has made work for numerous large scale public commissions.

Presenter:Â Jarcinda Stowers-Ama
In this interactive workshop, Jarcinda Stowers-Ama will give a quick overview of the The Business of Art both from the view of a Pacific arts organisation and an individual artist. She will go over business best practices and processes including invoicing, quotes, budgeting and a few other helpful tips for navigating the arts world.

BIOGRAPHY
Jarcinda Stowers-Ama is the Director for the Pacifica Arts Centre. Almost twenty years ago, a small group of Pacific Artists, under the guidance of Pacific Arts Advocate Mary Ama, would meet regularly to share, revive, learn and grow pacific arts and culture. Despite the fact that they had no official base, they continued tirelessly in their efforts to develop Pacific Arts in the region.
Wed 30 August -Â INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
In the workshop we will uncover the mystery behind intellectual property and help to inform you of your rights. We will look at things such as ownership, credit, permissions and agreements, as well as best practice.

Rachael Jones
BIOGRAPHY
Rachael Jones (LLB (Hons)/BA; NgÄti Kahungunu, NgÄti Rakaipaaka) is a solicitor at Chapman Tripp, New Zealand’s leading full-service law firm.  She is a member of the litigation and dispute resolution team, and the firm’s MÄori legal team Te Waka Ture. Rachael advises a range of commercial and iwi clients on complex legal issues, and regularly appears in court for her clients.  Rachael has acted for a large multi-national company in a patent dispute in the High Court, successfully protecting the client’s patent rights.  Rachael also deals regularly with a broad range of intellectual property matters for her clients.

Presenter: Tiffany Singh
In this workshop Tiffany Singh will provide advice on the written content you need to support your practice, including your own biography, how to describe your work, exhibition proposals, and preparing content for funding applications.
BIOGRAPHY
The rich spiritual, cultural and philosophical weight of Tiffany Singh’s work has led her to form an ever expanding practice.  Since completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours at Elam School of Fine Arts, University of Auckland in 2008, Tiffany has initiated major artistic projects both nationally and internationally.Â
Wed 13 September -Â MINDFULNESS
Presenter:Â Mira Riddford
In this workshop we will explore how mindfulness can help calm our nervous system, concentrate our focus and increase meaningfulness and purpose. Â We will also find out how breathing can elevate our experience of the present moment from something transitory to being highly engaging and creative.

BIOGRAPHY
About Mira Riddiford: Mira is a New Zealand-based meditation and mindfulness teacher. With over 20 years of experience, she has been trained internationally through apprenticeship, meditation retreat work and study.  Mira runs ongoing classes, retreats and professional workshops throughout New Zealand, and her online classes have participants joining in from Europe, Asia and North America.  Having worked in creative fields, Mira likes to weave in how mindfulness can enhance the arts, and she is respectful of diversity in all its forms.  She has a strong focus on mindfulness training being relevant for modern daily living, and how it can help with stress relief, calm and wellbeing.  Mira’s warm and engaging style breathes life into these mindfulness teachings.
