Tautai is an organisation that does different things for different people. Beyond our work with artists, galleries, curators and schools, the aim of Tautai is to always promote contemporary Pacific arts. Read below to understand better what we do:

  • Working with Artists

Tautai aims to provide Pacific artists with the necessary tools to help them develop their art practices and thrive as individuals in their communities. To achieve this, we offer both new and established artists opportunities to come together through a range of activities, including mentoring, professional development, exhibition projects, workshops and social gatherings.

  • Secondary Schools

Since 2001, Tautai has facilitated a series of art intensive workshops for students. Nominated secondary school students spend 3 days at Tautai Fresh Horizon workshops with established Pacific-heritage artist tutors thinking, talking and making art. These courses are designed to not only grow and cultivate the students’ artistic abilities, but to also build their self-belief and life skills.

  • Tertiary Programme

Tautai is committed to encouraging Pacific students studying art at Tertiary institutions. In Auckland and Wellington, Tautai engage senior students to act as liaisons between Tautai and Pacific art students. We also run an annual Tertiary Art Road trip, which introduces students to the work of other artists in New Zealand. Tautai’s Tertiary Art Exhibition provides emerging artists the opportunity to present their work in a public forum.
